The first half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business day on April 30th or the last business day of April. Postmark is accepted.
The second half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business on October 31 or the last business day of October. Postmark is accepted.
2023 payable 2024 property taxes are now available.
First ½ becomes delinquent on May 1, 2024.
Second ½ becomes delinquent on November 1, 2024.
If you are paying after the due date, please contact the Butte County Treasurer’s Office at 605-892-4456 for the total amount due, with penalty and interest.
Taxes not paid by November 30, 2024 will be published in the BH Pioneer, the second week in December.

Butte County does NOT accept postdated checks. The check will be returned to you.
IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION
- Real estate taxes are paid one year in arrears. (Example: In the year 2022, property owners will be paying 2021 real estate taxes.)
- Real estate tax notices are mailed to the property owners late January.
- The first half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business on April 30th or the last business day of April. Postmark is accepted.
- The second half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business on October 31st or the last business day of October. Postmark is accepted.
- Any taxes that are paid late will be returned to the remitter with the proper amount of interest and/or penalties due (interest accrues monthly).
- Delinquent notices are mailed in November.
- Delinquent properties are published in the Black Hills Pioneer the second week of December.
- For information regarding the Senior Citizens or Disabled Person tax freeze, or further information regarding your real estate or mobile home taxes you may call our office at 605-892-4456.
