The first half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business day on Friday, April 28, 2023.

The second half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Postmark is accepted.

2022 payable 2023 property taxes are now available.


First ½ becomes delinquent on May 1, 2023.

Second ½ becomes delinquent on November 1, 2023.


If you are paying after the due date, please contact the Butte County Treasurer’s Office at 605-892-4456 for the total amount due, with penalty and interest.

Taxes not paid by November 30, 2023 will be published in the BH Pioneer, the second week in December.


The annual Tax Certificate Sale will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 beginning at 9:00 am MST.

Butte County does NOT accept postdated checks. The check will be returned to you.


- Real estate taxes are paid one year in arrears. (Example:  In the year 2022, property owners will be paying 2021 real estate taxes.) 


- Real estate tax notices are mailed to the property owners late January.


- The first half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business on April 30th or the last business day of April. Postmark is accepted. 


- The second half of your real estate taxes are due by close of business on October 30th. Postmark is accepted.


- Any taxes that are paid late will be returned to the remitter with the proper amount of interest and/or penalties due (interest accrues monthly).


- Delinquent notices are mailed in November.


- Delinquent properties are published in the Black Hills Pioneer the week prior to the December tax certificate sale.

- The Treasurer is required by law to conduct a tax certificate sale the third Monday in December each year.  A tax certificate will be issued and sold on any property having delinquent taxes.

- For information regarding the Senior Citizens or Disabled Person tax freeze, or further information regarding your real estate or mobile home taxes you may call our office at 605-892-4456.


Driver’s Licenses are NOT processed at the Treasurer’s office.
